Ram Jaane 1080P is the story about Ram (Manoj Bajpayee) who has recently left his job as a bank executive and he is at loose ends. It's the only story by Mrinal Sen set in modern times, but it doesn't feel like one. The film has simple ingredients of love, family life, romance and friendship that are dealt with with lightness of touch. What makes this film stand apart from other films around it is its glorious Technicolor rendering that brings out the rich depths of every frame be it outdoors on a festive night or indoors in an intimate moment. The film is a treat for the eyes. The story is about Ram, a successful banker who has left his job to try his hand in the hotel business. His wife has no interest in this career shift and dreams of being a doctor. Meanwhile, he helps a friend who owns a bar by getting him a loan from the bank that he works in. When this friend dies in an accident, Ram decides to take care of the bar and open it under his name. It becomes quite popular and helps him meet various people from different walks of life - including one mysterious girl called Sakina who he falls in love with but can never find again after she leaves one night. The film is hugely entertaining with its great music by Amar Mohile and some great performances by Manoj Bajpayee, Rajkummar Rao and others. Gurudeva (Kamal Sadanah) is a small-time music teacher who teaches Ram (Manoj Bajpayee) how to play the harmonium. Ram longs for success in life and he secretly enjoys listening to Amar Mohile's popular songs on CD, much to Gurudeva's chagrin. Ram prefers the simplicity of life over the rush of city life, so when he is offered a job at his father's bank after Gurudeva tries without success to fulfil Ram's ambitions, he leaves instead. He starts to work as a bank executive and plays the harmonium in his spare time. He soon finds a bride, Anita (Soha Ali Khan), as arranged by his father who is keen for him to settle down. In the meantime, he also makes a friend of a local bar owner named Vikram (Rajkummar Rao), whom he helps secure a loan from the bank. One day at work, Ram finds that a cheque that should have been cashed has bounced because the person who cashed it died in an accident. On further investigation, he finds out that Vikram is running a drinking establishment called 'Giggles'. He gets angry and decides to visit the bar with the intent of informing Vikram that he has lost his job. When he meets Amar at the bar, he is told that the girl who was singing there earlier ("Ram Chahe Leela") has been missing since a few days. Somewhere in an obscure corner of his heart, Ram longs for this girl from Giggles. But life is not as simple as it seems for this young man who finds himself drawn into a web of deceit and misunderstandings.
